I commented on my FB page last night what a terrible time a 3 ft (1M) adult female WA Gaboon gave me trying to get her out of her enclosure and bagged. A friend of mine sent the following comment to me.
"The other day I just clean my 5 ft. + male Gaboon cage when I was guilding him back in his cage with a large hook i though I would be cool and tail him in. When I touch his tail he spun around in a heart beat then his head was laying on my tennis shoe's."
This of course could have ended quite badly but(thank god)just turned out to be a reminder that large Bitis can and will seem to break the laws of physic when they feel it's required. Don't be fooled by their normal 'slug like' behavior.

Yeah, there's basically NOWHERE you want to be touching a gaboon with your hand, and you don't want any part of your body near one when you touch it with a hook...or any other time for that matter.
This mostly applies to all venomous, but goes triple for these spring-loaded sausages of death.

Never known and reason to tail a Gaboon, or any Bitis unless they are too massive to use two hooks safely. Then, if you aren't expecting it...you really shouldn't have the snake in the first place.

The same calculations can be applied to this video of my female savaging a rat.

Yup. They'll drill you to the bone marrow too. If you've ever felt hem in your hands as they grip down on an extraction cup, it's quite humbling. No mercy there.
