Hi,
Is anyone aware of any studies done on the composition of the secretions of Tropidophis species when they bleed from the mouth & eyes as a defense? I read that it is believe that this might discourage predators because it taste bad, but this seems sort of suspect because if it was only blood being secreted, wouldn't blood be a normal dietary component of most predators? Rhabdophis and Macrophistodon have glands that secret defensive chemicals and I was wondering if Tropidophis might be doing something similar.
Thank you,
Kelly
