Cleopatra had a very strong believe in afterlife, she wanted to keep her beauty in death. Would a bite from a Egyptian cobra cause disfigurement? Would death by cobra be quick? Could the venom have changed since her time? Is there any other snake in Egypt that would be a quick death with no visible tissue damage?

Naja Haje is a possible suspect. Quick death by snake standards. Not too much necrosis and the most readily avalible snake in her time. It was also suggested that she used a Bitis but this is highly unlikely.
Hope this helps,
Andrew

Or did she poison herself as this scholar suggests http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/europe/06/30/cleopatra.suicide/index.html ?
