Luke-
Perfectly legit line of questioning. If man didn't ask questions, we'd never progress forward. :)

Wolfgang and Doug,
I will look for my copies of those books and try to find the references again.
I seem to remember that one of them did cite a university research study.
Hopefully, they are not part of the book collection that is in storage.

John: Look forward to seeing what you find!
Luke: As Doug said: it was a good line of questioning that stimulated interesting discussions here and on VenomLand. Nobody could ask for better!

I agree a very good question.Recently on the SA forum this topic was represented as a fact with all rattlesnakes species.I also question large grazing animals a source of evoloutionary progress yet I see man as even less of a reason for a evolutionary regression. Some one wrote once that mabie a deformity became a trait.I have had a atrox born rattless in 1982 and kept it for years.Intresting snake would not touch a rodent no matter what, until it was about 3 foot then he ate ratS.He ate lizards until then. His tail was a deformed matrix that shed much like any colubrid. No rattle ever.

Doug and Wolfgang - Thanks for the kind words! :)
Archie - Sounds like an interesting specimen. I wonder if there are any more like it roaming around out there.
