I caught this disturbing interview on WAMU's Animal House program last Saturday. Hit the "Click to Listen" button to hear it - (the video is a trailer for the documentary). Sure enough, the Bronx Zoo cobra comes up in the context of: "If the Bronx Zoo can't even keep a cobra from escaping..." Uh-oh.

Yeah, this movie looks like trouble, and it's getting great reviews. It seems the main story line follows a man who keeps lions in his backyard. The director portrays this man as misguided - he geniunely loves the lions, but disregards the danger to himself and others. In fact, one of the lions gets loose while they are making the film (awfully convienent for a documentary touting an exotics ban based on the 'what-ifs'- in fact, 'animal rights terrorists' have been releasing captive exotics as a publicity ploy for ages.)
The film also visits a hamburg show, telling the audience that it is astoundingly easy to buy a venomous snake. I think Jolliff (someone correct me if I botch this) was a target of the director and his co-hort, Tim Harrison. I am unsure if it made the final cut, as Jolliff made Tim jump through all the hoops, sign waivers, and whatnot before agreeing to sell him a snake.
Funny thing, too, is that Tim Harrison is an animal control officer in Ohio. I've heard his brother (or other family.. yeesh, I don't mean to butcher a good story, but this is my best recollection) owns a huge exotic sanctuary there... and where do you think exotic confiscations go?
The people pushing a ban are the ones who stand to benefit the most. Not surprising.
I've watched a few reviews - people are reacting strongly and swallowing the propaghanda pushed down their throats just as happy as you like. Check out the Facebook page for this movie and youtube it - see for yourself. It's scary and disheartening.

Jim Harrison of the "Kentucky Reptile Zoo" is Tim's brother. Jim and his brother are TOTALLY opposite in their beliefs in keeping exotics.
Jim is a friend and advocate to those that keep exotics legally and responsibly.
Just thought I would clarify the previous post.

Yes, it is important to remember that true brothers are often unrelated, and that blood brothers can very often be "TOTALLY opposite in their beliefs."
