Karl, John, Chris :
There seems to have been four posts, identical to this one posted; I deleted the others. Hope nobody minds.
Isn't this post better directed to the classifieds, under a Wanted Ad..?

Not to mention possible violations of state law in releasing animals that are non-native (heck, most states don't allow releasing any herps, native included, w/out a proper permit). Folks need to do their homework on matters like this.

There are enough problems worldwide from introducing species that don't belong in a certain habitat. It's the second largest threat to global biodiversity after habitat destruction.
Do not go through with this idea... please. Just look at the red eared slider as an example of what can happen.

I know Chip, and I am fairly certain he does not intend to release them into the wild. Albeit, it is a bit vague, but when he says he has built an artificial environment he is most likely referring to an outdoor "bio dome" like enclosure. I have seen the property, and he certainly has the room for it! Again, I am sure he will not be releasing non-native herps into the wild.
I could be wrong.
I am sure Chip will clarify his intentions, and correct any misunderstanding.

Hmm.. I must not have read this post clearly enough.
You want to RELEASE the animals..? Is your "bio environment" (?) an enclosed exhibit..? If we're talking about 11-thousand acres, of course you mean an open patch of land..? A bio-dome type of enclosure 11,000 acres..?!
For the obvious reasons, mentioned above, I would strongly advise against this idea. There is a reason that the species isn't there to begin with. Not to mention that it absolutely sounds illegal.

Again, I believe it was simply misread. The land he is speaking of is managed for game for hunting: hog, deer, coyote etc, and not an 11,000 acre biodome. I have seen the place, spent a weekend there two years ago. And again, I am sure that he has constructed a contained out door herp environment, and has no intentions of releasing six banded water snakes into the wilds of California's wine country.

You DO know that owning or importing ANY species of Nerodia is illegal in California, right? I've had many people from CA contact me to buy captive-bred Water Snake babies, but I will not knowingly sell to anyone who lives in a place where they are banned. That is the last thing the hobby needs, for someone in such an area to be "busted" with illegal animals, and the source of those animals being dragged through the mud. It makes us all look bad, just like when a breeder of American Pit Bull Terriers knowingly sells pups to someone who deals drugs and fights dogs. Just sayin'.
