You'll find many different opinions on doors. Everyone has their personal preference. I got tired of the sliding doors getting stuck partly open because of substrate in the track. Then you have to fix a jammed door with a hot snake inches away. I prefer swing open to the side. The door can be open all the way, or just an inch, or anything in between. The door acts as a "shield" between your fingers and the snake, and never jams. Use what you feel the most comfortable with. Take care, Marty
