In this photo a large spitter appears to be eating a black mamba. Is it a mamba? If not any ideas on species.

Hard to mail a definitive species, although the belly looks a bit dark for a mamba.

The general scalation looks like it it very well could be.. Hard to tell though, without a better angle to show some of the ventral scales, and a better shot of the belly..

Hmmm, I can't tell you which species it is exactly but I'd say with confidence that it isn't a black mamba. The scales don't look right for a black mamba. They look too round to me.

Here is the entire series of photos. Perhaps that will help. The description says the nigricollis is eating a mossambica but I am not sure about that at all.

Ah, I see what Jamie is saying about the round scalation, as is apparent in the other photos. Looks a bit odd to me too, in the other photos.
Also doesn't much look like the scalation of N. mossambica to me exactly, either, but it's very hard to tell.
Not sure on this one..
Take Care,
