In north Georgia, a 76 pound deer is not an adult, however, I know that many deer in south Florida don't grow as big. Still, a python eating any deer is as big a prey as I've heard so far.

The thing about deer is they "fold up" into a nice torpedo shape that makes them just right for a snake (assuming no big antlers).
That deer is fairly large for that snake, but not shockingly large.

I don't see what's the big deal about this - pythons eat deer. It's a perfectly natural prey item for an adult python.

One reason I think some people are making such a big deal about it is that most people have never seen a deer close up and think of them as much larger than they really are. So when they hear that a snake in the everglades ate an "adult" deer, they think "holy *(##$, a snake that could swallow a deer must be able to swallow a human".

I may have been a little misleading in the post title. I only meant to state that this was the largest prey animal that I have heard of yet being taken by an Everglade python. It's also the largest python yet captured (that I have heard of). I operate an internet wildlife cam in Georgia and get a daily dose of deer sightings(I feed them plenty). You're right, deer do appear much larger on the hoof. I don't think that python is a direct threat to any human, but I wouldn't mess without it without help.
