Claxton Rattlesnake Roundup officials have agreed to put a stop to taking rattlesnakes out of the wild and slaughtering them (selling them to a skin dealer who slaughters them) after the roundup.
Next week is the Whigham Roundup, lets hope they soon follow.

If there is any merit to these claims, then GREAT!
To stipulate that Ga DNR must provide the 50ish EDB Rattlesnakes every year. Well...that would be very generous of DNR to do but I couldn't blame them for not doing it. I don't believe it would be the states responsibility to provide animals for a private fund raising event such as their "round up".
again, GREAT if this works out, but I am not sure this isnt Evans County Wildlife's Club way of saying "want us to stop? then put up or shut up!"
Either way looks like their feeling some pressure.
Good Luck

There is defiantely merit. I spoke to Bruce Purcell who decided that it was time to change. He told me that if this is a success it could help put an end to the other roundups. He really went out on a limb and he is catching alot slack from some of the hunters, skin dealer etc.
For anybody who is interested you can email your support to Bruce
qkutdist@bellsouth.net
He could use everybodys support to show to the club members the positive reponses.

Any word on if they got the 50 EDBs yet?
I did send Bruce a positive support message (to end wild collecting) and encourage others to do the same.

Is anyone going to support the new festival?
I know that SHHS members went and supported Fitzgerald for the first few years after they switched from a roundup.
Just wondering.

I will be there with a rattlesnake display. I am bringing up a number of EDB's and Canebrakes. I encourage everybody who is in the area to come by and support this event. Bruce Purcell and the Evans County Wildlife Club took a big step and they deserve all the support from everybody who feels strongly about these events. If we can show that this is a success, it will help put an end to the others.

Did anyone go? How was the turn out? What did the Nature Club reps think?

There was a great turn out of snake supporters, many from this group brought snakes or manned booths. I have not heard whether or not this new arrangement was going to be permanent, but there sure was a lot of support there and the snake talks and displays were excellent....much more variety than just EDB's.

I saw some photos that included Heyward Clamp, Jr., Robbie Mesquit, and David Weathers. Come to think of it, Dr. Bob may know something about those pix.
