Hello guys, hoping someone with a bit of life experience could help me out.
As most of you know, I have been catching herps for my entire life. I know the feeding, shedding and behavioural habits of the local grass snake population like its the back of my hand. I contribute where I can on various forums and always try to encourage new herpers. My ultimate goal will be to keep venomous snakes.
My questions is, how can I make it more than a hobby?
What can I possibly do to make sure I keep learning and progressing in the community?
I am at a crossroads thinking about this and would appreciate any help.
Cheers,
Andy

Hi Andy, there are lots of ways to continue to grow your interest. There are probably thousands of papers that you have not read yet! You mention your interest in venomous....finding a mentor that might let you do a little work with their collection would be nice. Also you mention your work with grass snakes and I now a lot of work has been done on them but I also would be willing to bet their are holes in the natural history that you might be able to fill in with some concentrated field work. I hope this helps, other forum members will surely chime in with some more ideas.

Thank You Bob! As for the mentor, I do keep in contact with a few venomous keepers here in the UK, one even runs courses for new keepers, just have to wait a couple years.
Cheers,
Andy

Andy, I couldn't possibly agree more with Bob's statement regarding a mentor for getting venomous snake experience. By far the best and safest way to learn about them. It sounds like you pretty much have one already lined up. Best of luck!
