Hello all,
Just recently bought a green eyelash viper from the guys at Glade Herp's. Anyway, it is way small.they sent me 10 squirrel tree frogs as feeders, about thumbnail sized. It took down about 2 frogs per week, has shed a couple times and is doing swell. During the time that I was feeding off the frogs I was throwing the odd pinky or two at him (frog scented). All he would do was strike the pinky until it died and then crawl away. So I am thinking, feeder tree frogs are pretty hard for me to get ahold of where I live, and I want to get him on pinks. If I get 20 or 30 frozen pinks and wash them up to take some of the mouse scent down a notch, then go to the grocery store and buy a few frog legs, toss the pinks and frog legs in a baggy to scent them that might work.!!! Throw the baggy with the frog legs in the freezer and use the pinks as I need to feed. What do you guys out there that have eyelash viper babies think? Save me alot of $ getting frogs shipped to my house. I brained one of the pinkies I tried on him and teased him with it for 20 minutes, no luck. Think the frog leg thing is worth a try, even if I have to force the first few to get the taste in his mouth. Let me know what you all think. This is my first really small snake, and have read that this species is on the hard side as far as switching to mice goes... Thanks, Danny

I would talk to Glades about getting a break on buying about 12 more frogs .Than feed one frog a week. This will buy you enough time to get you into warmer weather. At this time you may be able to collect your own frogs locally. In many cases the snakes will thrive better with frogs than so with pinkys. As long as you worm them once a month.

Ok,worm them? That's the first I have heard about that. Even in the research I did before getting the snake. What would I worm them with? Also if I feed frozen/thawed tree frogs would that help on parasites. I froze the 10 they sent me and thawed them as needed. The snake took them just fine.

Some times snakes will refuse frozen frogs.I will feed live frogs.Run clean water over each live frog before you put it into the snakes cage. Than at least once a month to every other month apply a dot of panacure about the size of a bb on the frogs head than put into the cage, when the snake eats it will medicate it self. No need for hand contact. This has worked very well for me.And every now and than try a live pinky if it does not eat off tongs as soon as you put it in front of the snake dont keep forceing it on the snake, he will eat it when he is ready

Got it. He really has no problem eating the frozen/thawed frogs off of long tweezers. He will strike and hold then swallow frogs. Sure hope I can get him on mice though, it would save me alot of headache.but I will do what I must to keep him eating and healthy. Have to get my hands on some panacure. I will hit the Internet for that, any quick suggested sources would be greatly appreciated though. Thanks for the info... Danny

Even neonate eyelashes should be able to be fed on unscented pinky heads. Just the head initially, its football shape when teased properly will almost alway result in the snake swallowing it. Sometimes it take 5 or more minutes of constant teasing and if it is not positioned just right, I usually take it out and try again. After a few heads...the same presentation with a whold newborn pinky should be successful if you don't move once it has taken it. Hope this helps. I would worry about frog leg scenting since they are almost all imported from somewhere across the big water and worming 3-4 gram snakes with minute concentrations doesn't sound like fun either.

Beautiful,
That's what I want to hear. Ok, thank you all for the info. Going to try the pink heads unscented. Going to the Michigan reptile show this weekend and will pick up a bag full of pinks cheap. I have a savannah monitor that will make a nice little orderve outt of the pink body, atleast until I can get my eyelash to take the whole pink. Will post again to update any success.. Thanks again, Danny

Thanks,
The pinky head trick worked like a charm.he spit it out 4 or 5 times but then took it right down. How often should I offer him pink heads? Knowing there's not much to them.couple times a week ? For a few weeks, then offer him a full pink ? Thanks, Danny
