I was wondering if anyone in wv has been herping this year and noticed decline in snakes? I spend alot of time looking for and photographing snakes in central wv I also resque snakes from being killed by loggers and home owners.but this year there is a deffinate lack of snakes I have checked with several sources in my area who are experiencing the same thing black snakes ,timbers ,copperheads, garter snakes are all seem to be few and far between hurricane sandy hit us hard in late october we recieved 3 plus feet of very heavy wet snow I don't know if the rattle snakes and copper heads did not make it to the den or maybe if all the downed trees maybe changed the summer migration patterns if anyone has any ideas or has experienced the same thing here in wv I would love to here fron you thanks

I've found more on the road in the past two weeks than I had all summer. I would speculate that because it was a pretty rainy summer that snakes haven't had to be as active in searching for water therefore they're encountered less frequently.
