Those of you keeping copperheads, what temperature do you keep your snake room during the winter? What kind of heat do you use? Thank you.

Unless you plan to overwinter your snakes, keep them the same temperatures that you would in any other season.

I would keep them at temps between 72-78 year round, cooling down is not really needed. I would just double up on the feeding on male copperheads heading into fall ,in case they shut down for the winter they have some body weight to hold them over tell they start up again in the spring. Take care Chris

Did you make sure their bowels were evacuated? You don't want food contents rotting in their guts, it will poison them.

My room stays low - mid 80's in the day, low to mid 70's at night. And yes, make sure they haven't eaten before you burmate them. The food won't digest under the cool temps, and they will die. And either keep a bowl of water in with them or warm them up occasionally and give them a soak to keep them hydrated. When I did cool my snakes down in the past, I would keep them at 45 - 55. That's the temps my walk-in crawl space stayed year around. On the coldest days of winter, it never got below 45, and on the hottest summer days, it never got warmer than 55. So that worked out well. Take care, Marty
