I would think that an enclosure of that size would be quite cramped for V. exanthematicus as an adult. I'd recommend something about twice that long and 3-4 feet wide as a good starting point for an animal that can grow to nearly 4 feet in overall length. I like to give my animals a lot of room to move and thermoregulate, so I may err on the side of large when it comes to housing... you can probably get by with something smaller if the animal gets "out" to exercise a lot. But, and it's a big but (no pun intended) do you want to build or buy an enclosure that just gets you and the animal by or do you want to the best by the animal that you can? I'd build or buy the largest enclosure you have room for and use that as the starting point instead of "what some people say."
