I went to the Hamburg show this past weekend with a friend of mine and on the way he told me that he was looking to get rid of his Trans Pecos Copperhead due to the fact that the PA Fish and Boat Commission are cracking down on the ownership of any subspecies of Agkistrodon contortrix. I was always under the impression that Northerns were the only subspecies that required a permit in PA. Can anyone verify whether this is true or not?

Yes, supposedly they changed the law a couple of years ago stating "subspecies of copperheads is no longer recognized". You are not allowed to own one without a annual permit. Actually, I just found out about this issue myself.

Thanks for the input guys. I don't understand the reasoning behind this at all and yet I am not surprised either.

And the permit you are required to have is for hunting them...mokasen that is, of course, since those are the only ones that are NATIVE. Good luck getting one that will actually hold up in court.
