Im wanting to start getting into venomous reptiles. I do not plan on keeping a lot of them. Maybe 1 or 2 of my favorites, which are Copperheads and Gaboons. Im not going to just jump into keeping them unless I can get some experience. How is the best way to find someone in Georgia that will teach me? I know Georgia has some strict laws on venomous reptiles that prevent owning a lot of them.

Look to see if there are any chapters of a herp society in your area. Local pet stores, colleges, Google, etc. might know of one. Many of us, especially us old timers had to learn without mentors, computers, internet, cable/satellite, cell phones, etc. It can be done, just be careful and heed the advise from other keepers. Don't be afraid to ask questions if you have them. Mentors can be hard to find, mostly for liability reasons, especially now a days where everyone always seems to turn into a "victim" and wants to make a fortune from lawsuits. I've mentored a few folks over the years, but you're the whole state away. Sorry. In GA, get a snake your wanting to work with. Your legally limited to GA natives I know, but Georgia has awesome venomous snakes. You mentioned a copperhead, maybe start there. Very easy to find in Georgia and awesome snakes to work with. Always use the proper tools, caging, and safety protocols. Be careful, follow your state and local laws, and best of luck to you. Marty
