Been out of working around & keeping these guys for a while but finally got back into them recently, as they’ve always been a favorite.
A few months ago we received our 18 month old CB female. Shes alert, healthy and surprisingly calm. However for some reasons she’s gone off food & not sure what her deal is.
Her set up is good, temps, hides, etc. There’s no one that disturbs her since she’s in a closed room with just the other snakes/critters/etc.
She was raised on FT mice. Last meal was a month ago. I’ve tried the usual tricks; offering meals earlier & later in the day, different colors of mice, rats etc.
She shed 3 weeks ago beautifully. She spends much of her time in her cold hide unless she’s thirsty, chilly or needs to poo.
Never had one not hungry for so long that I can remember, but as mentioned it’s been a while since I’ve had one of the little guys.
Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Have you had any luck getting it to eat yet? I wouldn't get to worried yet. As you know, they can go a long time without eating. First I would try giving it a good soak for an hour or so in room temp water to make sure it's well hydrated. Do you have a warm area and a cooler area in the enclosure? Keep us posted. This website doesn't get 100th the traffic it used to, but a few of us check it occasionally. Take care, Marty

She did have a meal, but a week or so later vomited it up, partially decomposed. Itll be 2 weeks tomorrow.
She’s always got a hot and cold side, hides on both ends and a Large pool with fresh water that’s large enough to soak in if she chooses.
She slept for 2 days solid after vomiting (not a regurgitation). Since then she’s been active, very alert and looking For food. In the interim I placed a new feeder order and got Her some much smaller mice & rat pinks for her.
Hopefully she’ll take a couple small prey items tomorrow evening and be back to herself.
All the temps are good, been keeping a close eye on her and her poos. Had a couple little mucus poos after the vomiting episode (never had a snake vomit, ever; scared me a bit to find). She’s active and always Very alert, likes to hide but quick to pop her head out and see what I’m doing in the room.
Wish this site were more active but the response is much appreciated! Thanks!!!

Smaller food items might work, but if she still doesn't hold it down, you might try taking a fecal sample to your local vet to check for worms/parasites. Panacur was always my go-to as it's very safe and works pretty well. You used to be able to buy it at Tractor Supply or any farm supply store but I think it's only available thru a vet now.

Offered her a couple much smaller F/T mice this evening, and no luck. Maybe she’ll eat one over night, if not they’ll get removed of course.
I’m a bit sol for local vets; closest reptile one is a couple hours away. She is captive bred but I’m not super confident in the breeder she came from….. he decided to freehandle her to pack her up and got tagged and he Happened to be super sensitive and allergic to Crofab, so don’t totally trust she was super well cared for as a baby.

I just checked and Panacur is still available at Tractor Supply."Safeguard Dewormer for goats". Fenbendazole suspension 10% (100 mg/mL) Dosage for snakes is 5mg/kg. According to the book Understanding Reptile Parasites, it's so safe that 100 times the recommended dosage showed no ill effects to the snake. So no worries about overdosing. The way I use it is inject it into the body cavity of a thawed mouse and let the snake eat it that way. Marty

I’ll see if I can get some and if She doesn’t eat overnight I’ll add it to the next attempted feeding. If she poos before then I’ll take a look under the microscope (if I can find the damn thing), can’t hurt to look.
