I'm looking to relocate. I have over 50 rattlesnkes and over 10 years of experience. Looking for a state where I can have other venomous snakes legally. Where can I move to?

South Carolina or Florida are your best bets. South Carolina has a lower cost of living than Florida too. Florida yearly permits are $100, South Carolina has no permit system yet.

There are several states which do not have permit requirements for venomous snakes.
Good luck with your relocation.

UUUUUUMMM, I don'think Florida is a good idea, Awesome state, but you have go through quite a bit to keep venomous there. Virginia is extremely liberal about venomous, but pretty boring. South Carolina or Georgia would be my choice. J Lindsay

While I personally like Georgia, I do not often recommend it to people who already have established venomous collections.
The ONLY venomous snakes that are legal without an exorbitant permit and insurance combination are those that are indigenous to Georgia. That limits your collection to Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes, Cottonmouths (all US ssps), Copperheads (all US ssps), Timber/Canebrake Rattlesnakes, Dusky Pigmy Rattlesnakes and Carolina Pigmy Rattlesnakes.
The exotic venomous permit (the last time I checked) costs $258 per year and must be accompanied by proof of liability insurance in the amount of $40,000 PER ANIMAL up to a maximum of $500,000.
Fees like that make Florida's $100 permit seem small change.

PS Any recommendations to keep illegally that show up on our site are generally red-flagged by the F&G folks that come to visit. Disregard for laws concerning the keeping of venomous reptiles is contrary to the intended purpose of the SHHS. KHB

Virginia may not be the most exciting state as far as the diversity of animals and quantity of snakes that a body is able to find out hunting them, but the laws are pretty liberal. You can have 5 of each native species in possession, and the only limit on animals you can keep are there are no crocadilians allowed without permits and no Brown Tree snakes (Boiga irregularis) permitted. Of course, local ordinances may vary, so check local laws before moving here :-)
