has anyone ever found a red pigmy in the wild. I am planning a rather large photographic herp trip this spring. I'd love to find and photograph one of these little beauties. Are they only found in Hyde county? I've never found a pigmy before, what is prime habitat? I'll be traveling from Pa to Fl with many stops on the way. thanks in advance. Chris

We've found many pigmys but not any red ones. The ones we did find were very nice looking though. We find most of our pigmys while cruising dirt roads during the day. All of them were found in Waycross, GA around the Swamp Road area and the 8 Mile Post Road.
Good luck on your trip

Pigmies can be found in Hyde county by stump hole searching, and grass clump browsing, and board and tin flipping aswell as road crussing in mid day in the Spring and later in the afternoon in the summer . Pigmies usually are hard to find until late July through early October. Alot of males are out mate searching in the late summer months so there are more crawling on roads. Roadkills increase tremendously during the later months of summer consisting mostly of males about 95% while a few road mortalities for about two weeks in later April to early May occur it is about 40% males that are runover and 60% females. Good luck on your Trip
