I want to know exactly from what material should be fabricated the cloth cover of the beaker used at the extraction of the venom.

Traditionally, latex rubber is used as a membrane secured by a rubber band. I tend to use “Parafilm” a Laboratory film as a membrane. Much quicker to use.
I must say that I do find this type of question rather worrying because the fact that someone is asking such a basic (venom lab) question gives me the impression that they are about to start milking snakes without first seeking professional training.
I have set up a training course here in the UK to teach the basics of venomous snake husbandry and this does include information on extracting venom. It may look easy when seen on TV, but there is a lot to think about while carrying out this procedure. Currently I am the only person extracting venom in the UK and this is for venom research. I have seen too many photos on various web sites that make me cringe when I see the way that some people hold snakes.

Paul Rowley
