I spoke with a Lokota friend of mine a few months ago about herbs and plants that can help treat snake bite. He told me of a bush that his people call (oddly enough) rattlesnake bush, that has been used for centuries to treat Lokota people that have been snake bitten. It doesn't grow around here (Virginia), but he's going to get me some to check out.
There are often "cures" for poisons in nature. Poison ivy has a cure that grows adjacent to it in the wild. You just have to know what to look for. The plant can be broken and rubbed on the poison ivy-exposed skin to counteract the effects of the toxins in the ivy...
I'd be VERY intersted in hearing more about this plant that cures snakebite. I remember reading an account of a snakebite in "Karamojo Safari" a book about W.D.M.Bell, an ivory hunter at the turn of the last century, in which he tells of a native African man bitten by what he described as an "adder." The man ran off into the bush, reappeared in a few minuted with some vegitation, which he chewed and which appeared to provide whatever was needed to counteract the bite. Of course, it could have been dry.... but we'll never know.
Feel free to email me with any information you might have on this plant.
