I have set aside two dates to go herping, including road crusing, in north Florida this spring. The dates are March 18-21 and April 19-21. Can anyone suggest the best dates? Any other helpful info would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks.

HEY SAGAN..Those March dates are about right for good collecting in South carolina..especially jasper or hampton Counties..all depends on the weather as you know but ..Im sure the North of Fla would be good at the same time.,..Ive had good luck in the end of March and early april in the past..warm days bring out some nice Adamanteus..or atricadautus...Much later in april..gets Too much foliage for me and The heat is a problem.
of course early on you gotta watch out for Turkey Hunters as we share the woods that time of year!
good luck....

Thanks, foxhunter, for the information. Would you care to offer any more tips on finding snakes in Jasper and Hampton counties? I especially want to find canebrakes and corns. Also saw your post about herping in eastern N.C. I live in NC and I hope to get out towards the coast this coming year. I have seen several good reports about the area.

HEY SAGAN..SURE I could be of some help down in that area..I live in western NC but my favorite hunting grounds are in Southern SC..Most of the properties I hunt on are private...lots of bird shooting clubs ..deer clubs etc..Ive worked hard over the years to gain access and permission..Funny how those guys can be ..I mean they HATE snakes but are often reluctlant to let you on the property to catch them..go figure???
in any case generally I have to be ther to have acess..but let me think about it and i might be able to line up a place or two for ya...good area down ther for Corns..as for Canebrakes..well you know they are funny they show up when least expected and are usually ..well..wherever you find them!
If you are in need of a partner on any of your expeditions I might be interested..in exploring some new areas..Have heard much about the barrier islands off Georgia..Sapelo..Osabaw?
