Hi gang. I've been out searching for some Widow and Recluse spiders and Bark Scorpions for a project I'm working on (no luck so far). I'm not very good with insects and arachnids and such so I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. Could it be too cold right now (I'm in North Florida- it's been in the 40's all week)? Any places that I may have better luck with? I know this is a little off topic but you guys seem to know your stuff better than most so....

At 40 degrees they should still be pretty sluggish and you will only find an odd specimen that warmed up and came out too early. Hunting in at least 60 degree ++ weather will be much more productive. Brush piles, old buildings, etc are your best bet for widows and recluse. I am not familiar with the habits of the Florida bark scorpion but I have alot of experience with Centuroides vittatus in the wild and I usually find most of my specimens in June and July (80-90 F)Most of the females are carrying young on their backs in July.

Hey pygmybait,
Yes it is a little cool for them right now.
I had a real nice female but she laid her egg sack and died last week. It is getting in the high 60s here now, so if you need a few black widows I could get you some. FREE, It would get me back out hunting again LOL. We have a lot of pine trees on our land. As you may know the best place to find black widows is in the bark of pine trees. look for trees that are laying on the ground and turn them over and look in the bark. You should find them there. But Like I said if you need a few I could get you some. You would have to just pay the shipping. Which would not be much at all. Anyway, If you can not find any like that let me know and I would be glad to send you a few.

OH" and we have tons of Brown Recluses, I kill them dayly here. Again, you could just have them.
