I don't know of any promising places but if you find any let me know. I was in the Savannah area over the weekend and had no luck finding any rattlers. At the right time of day there are plenty of cottonmouths out around central Ga where I live. In a couple of weeks I'm going to head south again toward the Georgia/Florida line. I've heard there's a very small GA town (about 600 people) that sponsors a rattlesnake roundup every year. Maybe I can find some EDB's before the "Rounduppers" do. Good luck and happy herping. Let me know how it goes.

Hey kruzer:..Im suprised that the Savannah area was a bust..perfect time of year?!..I usually hunt the Beaufort..SC area anytime from Mar 15th thru the first few weeks of April..depending on the temps.
and its been mostly productive..
I'll certainly share any good sites or knowledge I glean form my excursion..
By the way that round-up you refer to is in SW GA. but I believe it has already occured? I think late march..Perhaps last weekend...I may be wrong but I think I saw the dates posted for that travesty..on a tourism site (Go figure?)..Good luck

Yeah, the roundup has already passed. I heard it was Jan. 31. My trip to Savannah would have probably been better if I would have had more time. I only spent about an hour the whole weekend looking for snakes. I plan to go again later and devote the entire trip to herping.

I live in Waycross and last year we caught about 8 pigmies in Fall. This year one was found. The best place to look is Swamp Road and the 8 Mile Post Road. We plan on looking for some pigmies and coppers also, we might see you out there if you go.

How about you guys checking out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/southernherping/
We need your participation in this group. We want to share herping stories, and learn more about good herping locations. I hope this group becomes a source for individuals to get together and do some herping. I think we need some group activities!!! Thanks.
