Well even though yall thought I was ready I am having second thoughts, you see ever sense I was 4 and my mom read me a book called snakes as a hobby or something like that. In it they explained what a herpetologist was. I said that’s what I want to be (I don’t remember it but my mom tells the story a lot). The rest is history I am now hopelessly addicted and WILL be a herpetologist. And that’s why I think I may wait anther year to get a copper. My reasoning is waiting another year wont kill me, rushing into this hobby might. So I will continue to train with the water snakes for now.
Thax to all that helped me, and I let you know what happens in the future

Hey little bro,
At least you can be honest with yourself. That's the best thing. You should continue to read the forums, participate in online discussion, and have someone who is knowledgeable train you correctly. In addition, check the legal status for your area, purchase/build escape proof caging (don't use glass tanks - this is wreckless and foolish), and develope a snakebite protocol. Have someone conduct rehearsals with you for pratice. You seem to be a pretty sharp kid. Confidence in your abilities is an important asset. Stay sharp!
You have alot going for you.

Its stronger to admit you're not ready than to rush into something as dangerous as Hot herp captivity....
I know many people I wouldnt trust with a goldfish that have rattlers (in glass cages!) in their bedrooms... I think you're doing a wise thing by following your instincts, that same instint is gonna keep you alive when you actually get a venomous snake!

Randy,
Just another fine example of why you are wiser than your years. I commend you on having the maturity and intellect to know whether you are ready are not to make the leap into this hobby. Many here could learn from your example. Hopefully, you can attend the Greenville, S.C. show on October 30th and 31st. There will be alot of our site members there and who knows you could meet a possible mentor from your locale. Well, good luck to you my friend.
Later,
Todd
