Awe. Venomous reptiles are phenomenonally unique among the vertebrates in the way they kill their prey. I just can't seem to get over the concept of an animal with hollow teeth injecting toxins that kill their prey with amazing rapidity.
I suppose my "awe" for them would be similar to someone's awe of a person that could run 100 mph or jump 50 feet in the air.

I think Chris summed my thoughts up pretty well. I'm always amazed any time I sit down and take a close look at my snakes to see the degree of which a species can evolve over time. Nature is an amazing thing and is not something to be taken for granted, or lightly. Those that do, be it in this hobby or any other involving potentially dangerous living things, tend to pay for it. In our hobby, the costs can be dear. I just love the opportunity to daily be able to interact with some of the most awe-inspiring, feared, reviled, hated, and misunderstood creatures on the planet.

I think this paragraph pretty much sums up my feelings of awe twoards the most impresive survivor on the planet (MHO of cource)
Courtsey of Crotalus64:
"She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage. ... she never wounds 'till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her." - Benjamin Franklin

Yep, The Awes have it. How could something so small, concealed, and quiet be so very deadly. The feeling one gets when just seeing one is overwhelming. As some of you know I lived in Fairbanks, Alaska for many years and I have run up on a few Grizzly bears while out hiking or hunting. The feeling was a lot like when I run across a venomous snake here in Mississippi.
Just makes life worth living LOL.

I agree with everything above and would add that in my case I just sort of have a soft spot for animals that most other people don't like. I think that's the main reason I like cottons even though most keepers don't even seem to like them (there seem to be a high percentage of cotton lovers on this site though). I also love things like wolves, rats and many insects (I could live without mosquitos or common raoches). Being able to walk out the back door of the snake room at our refuge, let out a howl and be answered by the wolves a few pens away literally brings a tear to my eye (and makes me type long replies that digress from the question.)

Well i asked the question so I should also reply I guess the thing I like the most is to look at a snake like and think that most people hate this snake but look at it and the patterns the size the movement the way it flicks its tounge tasting and sensing me and my preasence this animal doesnt like or love me it just wants to survive. I get asked by co workers what is it that makes me like them so much and its hard to give a good awnser that they would understand they say it must be a macho thing well trust me the last thing i am is macho and i wish i could give them a good awnser but its hard so when they down me i just smile cause i know that theres one thing i have that they dont have and thats a passion and respect for one of gods most amasing creations, man fears what they dont understand and i luckly do snakes are an animal that is driven on a raw instinct to survive to me how can you not love and respect that.
