I have been handling snakes for some time. But I have never known the exact reason why some snakes while holding them their cloaca petrudes out, and looks swollen. Is it from stress? I have seen it a few times but have never asked the question....Why? so if anyone can help me. Why?

Everting the cloaca is often combined with musking. Both are defense mechanisms. The snake is telling you it really does not enjoy being held. Most snakes don't.

either it don't want to be handled, or its a boy and your getting him excited! I have a male boa who when is placed in a warm bath will, uh, no pleasant way to say this, gets turned on, and will actually ejaculate. what ever floats your boat I guess!
it may sound like I'm being smartassed about this, but truth can be freaky sometimes, either end of the spectrum is possible!
