I have just recently acquired a pair of C.Ruber's with the understanding they were typically "calm natured". My female lives up to that standing! On the other hand the male will lunge out of the cage when opened and strike occasionally when walking past the cage. This seems not to odd for a snake but just wondering if anyone else has had this same experience with the ruber's.

I have rubers too but they are very mellow. The only time mine really get angry is when I am cleaning the cage. I don't really know why your male is that aggressive. They are supposed to have a better temperament than Atrox. That is a stumper for me. How new to captivity is he? Maybe he will settle down after he is used to traffic and people.

One of my male rubers will do some of the same stuff, but it is a feeding response. I also have another one that reminds me that they are rattlesnakes. They vary in temprament -- most are calm, but I've had some fairly hot ones in the past and the young male that I have now is certainly no pet.
