Hello Henrik,
Gloydi is named after a very famous herpetologist named Howard Gloyd. He is one of the classic herpetologist that started it all. There are a lot of things named after him, including a genera of Asian pit-vipers "Gloydius". He has tons of scientific publications out there including "Snakes of the Agkistrodon Complex" which he co-authored with Dr. Roger Conant.
Dr. Roger Conant is another great, though he recently passed away. Roger Conant co-authored the Peterson's field guide (Eastern and Central Region). He also has tons of publications to his name. He also has a lot named after him, like Agkistrodon piscivorus conanti (Florida Cottonmouth).
Barry L. Armstrong is the other herpetologist. He has done a lot of work with rattlesnakes, some real good work down in Mexico.
Hope this helps.
Robert Jadin
