I have a small Crotalus Ruber that is about 2 feet long. He has eaten regularly in the last 2-3 weeks but has not produced any waste. This may sound like a silly question but can a snake become constipated? He seems like he is a lot less active than usual. He spends all of his time in his hide box and does not become very agitated when I lift the hide box off of him. It really seems like he would have "relieved himself" after 2 mice. I fed him last week twice and he was happy to eat. If he is backed up, what do I do?
Any pointers will be appreciated.
Thanks
Clayton

Shane is right...soak'm if you must but give it some time. Put some fresh water in the enclosure and move it to the water. See if you can gently dunk it's head and see if it drinks. The alternate is to mist with a spray bottle and see if it will lap up the "dew". No reason to panic yet.
Best,
Al

It is not unusual for Crotalus sp. to eat three or four times before deficating. Don't worry about it.
If he is eating at that rate, he may be getting ready to go into a shed. They will usually deficate during or after that process.
Do not soak you ruber in water. If you are real concerned about it, take him out and have him crawl around - this usually does the trick.
Again, I doubt you are having a problem.
Cheers, CArl
