For Costa Rica, you have to get "Amphibians and Reptiles of Costa Rica: A Herpetofauna between Two Continents between two seas." by Dr. Jay Mathers Savage. It is definitely one of my top five herp books. This book however is HUGE and not good to take on a trip. So you might want to look at it before you go, take good pictures, and then check out what you saw when you get back. (about $75)
Twan Leenders has a smaller field guide version of Costa Rica that is much cheaper. It is good but lacks the extensive species list and photographs that the other has. "A guide to the amphibians and reptiles of Costa Rica"(about $20)
One book that I don't have is Reptiles of Belize. It is pretty good but I think it is a little pricey and I prefer:
Jonathan Campbell's book "Amphibians and Reptiles of Northern Guatemala, the Yucatan, and Belize" (about $40)
and Julian Lee's "Amphibians and Reptiles of the Mayan World" (about $40).
Both these books are awesome, compact, cheap, and good field guides. They however are only good for northern guatemala and yucatan peninsula. I don't have any good books for Nicaragua.
The Venomous Reptiles of the Western Hemisphere is my favorite book but it is neither compact enough to travel with nor is it a book that you would want to get messed up. I definitely suggest buying it if you don't have it but I doubt you'll want to bring it with you. I would just remember which venomous species are in that country and what areas they live in.
Hope this helps.
