It`s realy ennoyinig when you feel so powerless in helping injured animals. I found a slow worm(Anguis fragilis- leggless viviparous lizard) hit on the road last year and it was pregnant. It had a hole in her abdomen an you could see the babyes in her. Fortunetly I managed to remove all the babyes from her and they were all right. They were due to be born anyway in that perioud. I felt sad for the adult female which didn`t make it but at least the babyes had a chanse. I agree that you should uthenize the injured copperhead. I also think using the freezer is the best way.
