I have a great herp vet that I would trust with any of my animals. The problem is he does not do venomous as insurance policies, local ordinances, etc prevent that. He is available for consultation this way and has helped me this way before.
But the problem comes up with something that really needs a professional vet to look at the animal such as in a case of retained young, egg bound animal or other necessary surgery. He told me in such cases, I have to be prepared to take a loss.
That I can understand with easily replaced animals but I've been ready to work with Bushmasters and the thought of no where to turn in case of an emergency with such an expensive and not so easy to replace animal, currently has me putting the whole idea to rest.
Any suggestions of finding a vet - within driving distance of 8 hours or so - that could examine and treat venomous snakes ? I'm in the Mid -Atlantic region.
Thanks.

Dr. Sam Seashole is the only venomous vet that I know of in the southeast. He periodically will be at Alligator Adventure in Myrtle Beach, SC. But I believe his office is in North Charleston, SC.

Thanks for the response. I found out awhile ago that this is a tough situation to find an easy answer to. The vet you mentioned is so far the only one that anyone mentioned to me. I already know of the Florida based vets but of course driving from Baltimore to Gainsville with a sick snake isn't something I can do in the spur of the moment. South Carolina is better, but before I jump into the expense and commitment to Bushmasters, I need a vet closer than that to rely on.
Thanks again for the help.
