I spoke -w- a person from the dept of wildlife on Fri. I asked her about keeping indigenous snakes and she said this was fine so long as it is not more than 4 and not an indangered or snake "of concern". In other words no indigenous rattlers or coral snakes. We chatted for a while and she said keeping more than 4 is just a matter of attaining an easy to get permit however it is not possible for a hobiest to attain a permit for rattlers/corals. Interesting thing though is that I can get a rattler that is not from this area WDB for example and keep it as a pet so long as it is not endangered in the state from which it came. Interesting interpretation or misinformation?

i live in nc too, and i think that you can keep any snake here that is not endangered or threatened in this state. i dont think it matters if its threatened in another state, as long as it is obtained legally of course.
