Taken from Alan Tennant's "Snakes of North America," Findlay E. Russell's work with the toxins of Crotalus viridis (1980) indicates that prairie rattler toxins have only about 1/2 the tissue-necrotizing effect, and less than 1/3 the blood-destroying potency of WDB venom. Yet, due to its large complement of neurotoxically active peptide components the prairie's overall venom potency is slightly greater (543). Remember though, that WDB's are usually much larger with much more venom making them the more dangerous of the two.
