I have heard they are venomous and I've heard their not. What is it? If they are Venomous, how toxic are they? and what type of venom do they have? What are their husbandry requirements?

I know very little about False Water Cobras. They are a rear fanged Venomous snake. I would suggest going to Great Valley herp at www.snakemuseum.com They sell them and should know about them.

Yes, H. gigas is a venomous snake. They supposidly have a venom as strong as that of a C. adamanteus, though produced in a far less quantities.
Personally I am skeptical of this comparison since I know nothing of the composition of the venom.
Cheers

Hydrodynastes gigas are rear-fanged snakes, thereby possessing a Duvernoy's Gland and enlarged grooved teeth that are situated in the rear of the mouth. Their saliva is reportedly about as toxic as that of Crotalus atrox (NOT Crotalus adamanteus!), however, due to the fact that it is delivered in very minute amounts (much lower yield and less efficient delivery system), bites are generally not considered to be life-threatening. That being said, cases of severe envenomations have been reported, and a cautious approach is therefore recommended when dealing with this species.
Hope this helps.
