Anyone who thinks that anonymous posting should be eliminated, answer this post and give your reason why. This is sort of a petition in a way.

I think anonymous posting is a real problem because so many people abuse it. Some are legit but majority of anonymous posting is either slanderous or foul. There is no room on this site for that kind of behavior.

If a member has something negative to say just have the maturity to let it go or email the person to voice you opinion ,instead of being rude or childish.

Al, thanks for listing the past discussions on Anonymous Posting. After reading them, I find myself in agreement with Karl Betz, in that We Should Have Anonymous Posting. As Karl stated, there are some people who because of their jobs, positions, etc., can use anonymous posting to express their ideas without calling attention as to who they are. Having worked with many professional zoo, university, and museum people over the years, I know that a lot of these folks like to offer help, but also like their privacy. They do not always want to jump into a forum and sign on as Mark O'shea, Steve Erwin, Karl Kauffield, etc., but they like to help, and given the option of being anonymous, they will. If we ban anonymous posting, some of the true experts will probably post less often.
The anonymous posting also allows new folks to ask what they consider "dumb" questions (there is no such thing as a dumb question), but some folks are afraid of being embarrised or having folks jump on them for expressing an idea or question or opinion.
Some anonymous posters (Phantom)give good answers and use the anonymous posting for their own reasons, and have great respect for the format.
There will still be the jerks, and trolls, who see the anonymous posting as an outlet for their childish fudes and rantings and use of foul language. We should ignore them, and not get into silly discussions with them as to venom yealds, or if it was right or wrong for some young folks to pose with snakes at a reptile dealership. Things break down quickly at that point, and the whole discussion looses any professional credibility. It also tends to make the folks defending themselves against anoymous postings look flustered and silly and unprofessional. Hopefully, the webmasters will remove their rantings as quickly as possible.
If we can expose the abusive anonymous posters, I am all for that. In looking at past postings, I am quite sure who a couple of the bad anonymous posters are. They do repeat themselves in spelling, sentance and paragraph structure, and word usage. Seeing them embarresed might cause them to take their rantings elsewhere. But overall, I think we should keep anonymous posting. Best Regards JohnZ

Hi John:
I thought it would be useful to find those old threads so we don't waste time on issues already beat to death.
One nice thing we (SHHS)is try to have a section of FAQ's about the common questions, ie: milking snakes....etc... Or a better search function for past threads, so finding them is easier.
I've been trying to not feed the trolls. Karl's analysis is correct, just better to walk away and let them be..
Cheers!
Al

Even though I post anonymous, I try to help people with there questions. I know some people abuse it, and we just have to let it go and ignore it. I try my best to share my knowledge with people learning the ropes of this wonderful hobby. - The Phantom
