Hi Al, could you tell me more about your trip to Komodo? What were the locals like, how common was the wildlife there, where komodo dragons around every turn? I would love to go there someday. I was just kidding about the snake bitting part, I would never let a venomous snake bite me ;)

Jeremy:
Wow..what a great time that was..
I was there at the end of June/early July when it was in the "Dry season" winter is another term you could use. Most of the Female Dragons were in burmation (sort of) and not very active since food was not very abundant. The males were lying all over the place and were easy to find. I chose to hike early in the AM before it got too hot and the Dragons got too warm..if you know what I mean. I saw lots of different animals from all of the different families but I was there for reptiles. I saw Vipers (Daboia russelii sp) and Green Tree Pit Vipers (Trimeresurus sp)I had no snake hook (National Park rules), so I was not even messing with them. Lots of Lizards & Skinks crawling around.
The natives make money by selling wood carvings of Dragons and other touism type stuff. I was mobbed at the dock where my boat was mored, everybody wanting me to buy their stuff. They were nice friendly people in general and survived by fishing the reefs off the islands. They seldom have problem with the Dragons, it's the Snakes that cause most of the problems. The Dragons are the preditor that keeps them in check. I was told there are more venomous snakes per Kilometer than any other place on the planet. I have no way of telling if that's true or not.. I do know there was not a drop of A/V to be found on the island. The nearest Hospital was hours away by boat on Flores or Sumbawa.
One of the best trips of my life...wish I had more time to stay. I will be going to Australia this year, so I hope that one will be a great on too.
Cheers!
Al

If my plan works out I want to go to some Tropical location early late next winter or early next spring. I would love to go to Komodo. What part of Australia are you going?

Hi Bryan:
No, I prefer to take pictures. My collection is all CB stuff to the best of my knowledge.
