Oh by the way, thanks Cro for the clarification. And it is also nice that my first choice seems to be correct. ( I will get better with those young ones yet).

As long as we're talking snake identification, I'm 95% sure that's not C. constrictor. I think it's a black ratsnake (P. obsoletus obsoletus) (formerly E. obsoleta obsoleta), but I'm not sure. It's too thick and too shiny for a racer, and C. constrictor has a distinctly lighter colored belly.

Im pretty sure it is C.constrictor because the only E.obsoletas here seem to be an intergrade of the yellow and black. The white chin is what I tried to capture in the photo. Which is supposed to be a good sign that it is a C.constrictor. However,I know I could be mistaken.

Ignore me. I'm so used to seeing SOUTHERN black racers and it hadn't crossed my mind that you were in NORTHERN black territory. With a minimal amount of searching I see that your racers hardly look related to the ones down here...all the things we use to positively distinguish them from other snakes are different on yours except for the white chin, but black rats can have that too, and it's never blotched like that down here.
