Hello, I have problems feeding my mcgregor pit viper. Seems that it has gone off its food for around 5 weeks. WHile I do know venomous snakes like waglers can go off without food for a month (in fact they have to..), I had really no information on the mcgregors and that got me quite worried. However, it still seems pretty bright and active, and still pay regular visits to the water bowl. So should I just put it aside or bring the snake to the vet?

I d say give it alittle time. As most snake do, tree vipers it seems will go feed for several months at a time in extream cases, for no reason and show no ill effects from their fast.
A couple of questions which may help enlighten us to the reason. First, is it a male or female? If ts a male, maybe hes in booty mode and thinking about getting some butt more so then feeding. Also, are you in an area where its been raining alot? Rain, in pirticular thunder storms seem to make alot of arboreal vipers/pitvipers go into breeding mode and again, the animal may be looking forward to breeding more so then food.
WEith these tree vipers I have learned not to worry when they go off feed unless they show signs that something is wrong. I have a T.borneensis that went off feed for 4 months and then one day started scraffing down food again like nothing ever happened! Though many a grey hair were spawned from her fast, she never showed any negative signs andis still kicking strong.
Well, I hope this helps some. Good luck and I would love to see a pic of the tree huggin beauty!! Those guys are awersome animals!!
Good luck and keep us updated.
Peace,
Jeremy

Well, I don't quite think it's in a booty mode cause it's still a baby..ableit about to turn to subadult but still a baby. I was thinking the same thing too..but isn't this kinda unusual for so young an age?
Well..guess I shouldn't worry too much..thanks!
