I keep a pair of c. Atrox and was thinking (not too seriously) of milking them. I know it is slow going to gain any large amount and quite very risky. My question is how much is the venom worth? Just wondering, Luke.

It's much safer to get a job at Walmart, and make money that way. Plus, you get a killer 401k, and a blue suit too boot. The av source is low right now, and this would not be a wise choice for those reasons alone. Plus, you'll need a lab-type setting for proper purification. It can be done, but I would hate to see you take a hit at this juncture. My advice for you is hit the biochem studies in school, and you'll be well on your way. I forgot to answer the Q, your life, and your fingers are worth more. Good luck, Tim

Crotalus venom isn't worth much at all. There's more than enough supply to meet what little demand there is. Now if you are doing protein separation, then you could command a little more for the venom components, but still not much. Offhand I can think of four places where I could buy C. atrox venom, and if I tried hard, I oculd probably find four or five more.
With the Antivenom shortage, it's most deffinatly not worth the risk right now. Schooling is the way to go. Biochem, organic chem, protein chem...these will build the foundation if you really want to get into venom on the professional level.
Cheers
Roger
