ok...at the moment i still live in north-central alabama..huntsville..and i have been looking hard for the past few weeks for some type of venomous snake and talking to people who have supposedly seen them but i've had no luck...there are supposed to be cottonmouths(which after hunting waist deep in different swamps, i doubt)copperheads and rattlers...i have been looking in the ideal places for each and havent seen anything..i dont expect to find rattlers really and have since been concentrating on copperheads but have had no luck..is there a time of day that i should look or a certain weather condition...ive been looking early to mid-day on clear, warm(80's) sunny days....but no luck...any pointers cuz im sick of water snakes and ringnecks and really just want to see some in the wild...gracias

Yes, you do have those pit vipers in your range, and also the pigmy rattler. It is not always easy finding venomous snakes, you just have to keep at it. First of all I recommend you try different times of day, because although you may catch a copperhead or cottonmouth basking, they are more active at night. If you know any local roads in the woods that aren't well traveled you may want to try driving these after dark, very slowly. Especially in hotter weather. During the day see if you can find any rocky outcrops or heavily timbered or debried areas. Remember, it is probably a good thing that they are not always so easy to find, because snake bite would happen more. If they were too easy to find then any guy that watched crocodile hunter last night and wants to catch a viper by the tail for fun could do so. Just keep at it. I have not searched for snakes in Alabama, so maybe someone else out there can help you a bit more. One final note, be careful. I'm not sure if you plan on doing any more than taking pictures, but know all the information you can on any species you intend on getting close to or manuevering in any way. Hope your luck increases
