My anaconda has been recently making a weezing sound. It hasnt been eating and I was wondering if it was sick. He's about a foot or so long and I have had him a couple of weeks. He shows no interest in mice or fish. My guess is that there is something wrong. If anyone knows what it could be please tell me what I need to do for it.

It sounds like a respatory infection. I would say to definately isolate him and your burm from the rest of the collection since you would not want a wipe out. I really do not know anything that can help the respatory infecting other than mabye some medicines that a local vet might have.

Hey Kyle, one thing you can do is take a smooth pen and while holding your Anaconda, roll the pen into its mouth to pry it open. Take a look at the color of the tissue in the mouth. If its a dark red chances are it is a respiratory infection. Respiratory infections can also cause the tissue in the mouth to be swollen. What has worked for me is to stick the snake in Rubbermaid bin with punched holes for air flow with nothing but some damp paper towels for a few days. I use racks with wire shelving to hold my cages. Since I don't like using direct heat on the Rubbermaid containers, I will place the Container on a rack directly above a cage with a heating dome. The heat dome will give enough heat to keep the humidity up in the container. Check on the snake every couple of days and offer it water daily to drink or to soak for a while. If this does not help I would recommend seeking the help of a reptile vet. Good luck.

Hey Kyle, if it is Resp. infection, the vet will give it a series of Cipro injections. Same drug they use to treat anthrax. It acts kind of like an anti-cholerengic drug. It will "dry it up." I have a tortoise that was sick when i got it, and this is what the vet used. It was about $8 a shot. Works great. We use the same stuff at the hospital for bacterial infections. My point is this. It isnt expensive to treat. Hope this helps. Bryan

Raising the temps will often help alleviate symptoms of RI if done early...however, if the infection has progressed, and is severe, antibiotics will be needed.
