Last I checked, Raymond Ditmars was a person and not a herp :)

The word "herp" can refer to either an animal or to a person...the former being short for herptile, the latter being short for herpetologist. In regards to the original post, I admire his work, but I would say he had some folks follow him that were at least as good. Here are a few on the same plane as Ditmars to my mind: Roger Conant Sherman Minton Findlay Russell ~~Greg~~

I've NEVER heard the word "Herp" used to refer to a person and I've been in the field for many years.
