Does anyone know if heavy bodied snakes like my Royal pythons grow rapidly soon after shedding as they seem to shed much less than other snakes, ie Corns that I have as I have noticed that they seem to grow much faster after shedding and it seems to be just in girth and not much length. cheers,Keyz

I have known a few people with royals must say from what i have seen the seem to grow slowly regardless of how often they shed.
Just so i dont use more space on the site Keyz i dont suppose you have ever been to a shop in St helens called snakebite have you. If so just wanted to let you know that some T***TS robbed it the other night and stole almost two thousand pounds worth of snakes including african rocks, boas, carpets and also two breeding pairs of black and gold phase alberts (white lipped) pythons. Shame there are such people doing such a thing around christmas and full stop.
Have a good christmas peeps and a good new year Az

Shedding is in fact indicative of growth. The skin does not grow. As the snake grows it sheds its old skin. If your animal is not shedding very often, it is not growing very fast. A young Ball Python properly fed should shed approximatly every 30 days. Ball's are, however, notorious for being finicky eaters. They are not fast growers under any circumstances, but will grow steadily if fed one appropriately sized rodent once a week. Snakes do not grow faster after they shed! Snakes grow faster when they are well fed!
