This may be too personal or taboo, but again this world is fascinating to me. Saw a show recently where a Police Officer in the Midwest I believe caught an escaped or released Gaboon Viper. My question is this: is the venomous snake community small enough that someone would know who that snake belonged to? Reason this occured to me is that I ride a certain type of performance bike and everyone knows everyone or at least of them.

Not really. Gaboons are easly available and that particular show did mention how a large group of them had been sold in that area.Unless the animal were chipped of extremly rare it would be hard to narrow down. Now if it were an Inland Tiapan or something like that it might be a little easier to track down who the owner was :)

Well let me also say that if somehow one of my Gaboons were to grow hands and pick the locks on their cages and the door to my herp room and escape... LOL.It would not be too hard to track down me as the possible owner.I am one of maybe 3 true hot keepers in the state of Kansas. By true hot keepers I mean someone who has made venomous snakes a part of his or her life. Not someone who catches a Prarie Rattlesnake and decides to take it home and make it his new cool pet to show his friends and family........Trey
p.s. The Fish and Game officer who caught that Gaboon is Jim Harrisons brother. If your not familiar with Jim check out the Kentucky Reptile Zoo.I belive they have a web page.
