Does anyone know any good places to go looking for snakes in the LA area? I went to Griffith Park in Hollywood and caught a glipse of a rattler a while ago but would like to find other spots, preferrably with less vegetation.

I'm in Southern CA also-- if youre in L.A. you can always collect around the San Gabriel Mtns. however, if youre up for a little drive... I usually go out towards Palm Springs-- theres some decent night collecting out there. Actually...... just last week I took a drive and got a Cal-king and a Red Diamond Rattlesnake. Not to mention all the banded geckos, and long nose snakes I dont even stop for. Night collecting on desert roads is gettin' better and better as its warming up here. BUT, if anyone else knows some good collecting spots in southern CA, please please pleeeeeease let me know! Im always looking-- ALWAYS!! Good luck, be safe!

Thanks a lot! I've been wanting to go out to Palm Springs to have a look but haven't gotten around to it yet. Did you ever try to find anything there during day time? And do you know any specific, easily accessible, areas of the San Gabriel mountains?

As for certain hot spots in the SanGabriels? Im not exactly sure, I just know foothills usually provide some OK collecting. Um, day collecting is great out there too, but it all depends on what youre looking for also. I heard Lake Matthews (near lake Perris) has some good night collecting too-- but I havent had the chance to cruise out there yet. One question, where the heck are all the REST of the soCal herpers?!! Help us! THANX!
