A friend of mine was recently given a Southern pacific rattlesnake which had been kept outside whithout water (duration of captivity unknown). Upon recieving the animal, he fed it a mouse whitch it readily ate. It then spent the next two days drinking large amounts of water at the end of which it partially regurged then, later that night, passed away. Heat was not an issue. The only thing that occured to me was possible renal failure due to the large amounts of water consumed. Obviously, short of some kind of Crotalid autopsy, we will never know the cause of death, but I was wondering if anybody else had expierienced similar symptoms in there collections.
thanks, todd

There is no telling why it died. It could have been the elements from outside and duration of no water would be the big reasons. Being in a captive enviroment without proper care will kill anything easily. Espically reptiles, they are so delicate. Hate to hear of someone having a reptile and not take care of it. Bryan
