my little step brother found some eggs buried in his grandmother's potato garden. they dont seem to be bird eggs and i wanna try to hatch them. i live in north-central alabama and the eggs are plain white, smooth texture(except for some slight indentation from where they were laid), about 1.5" long, elongated oval shape with kind-of blunt ends, and they were buried about 3" or so deep. i kept them turned the exact way they were found and im keeping them at my normal outdoor temp and humidity in a tupperware bowl...they dont match any of the birds around here that lay eggs and the only thing else that lays them this big could either be box turtle(?) or snakes....there were 5 of them..anyone have any ideas of what they might be...i've ruled out black racers(which are all over)

Are the eggs hard or leathery? That is the key difference between turtle & snake eggs. Are they smooth or grainy? ~~Greg~~

they are more like very thin plastic, they dont seem leathery really, or pliable...reminds me of a christmas ornament...they are solid but seem really thin shelled and really full of fluid...i dunno

In that case, I'd have to say they are not snake eggs. Without seeing them it's hard to say what they are, & even if I could see 'em, I'm not sure I could tell exactly. Try to hatch 'em. ~~Greg~~

My guess is that they are from box turtles ; the number, small dentation on one side and that they were buried in soil all point towards turtle eggs.
Definately not racers - racer eggs look like they are covered with grains of sand.
